COLLABORATING
ACROSS THE
FLOODPLAIN

The Lower Fraser is a complex, interconnected region where the river meets the Pacific Ocean. Its delta and floodplain support five species of salmon, 31 Mainland Coast Salish First Nations, and 26 local governments. The region produces over 50% of B.C.’s agricultural output, includes major supply corridors and the Port of Vancouver, and is home to more than three million people.

THE REGION AS ONE

LFFC brings together Lower Fraser First Nations, local governments, provincial agencies, and partners such as farming and industry groups to build relationships, share knowledge, and find opportunities for collaboration. Our work supports UNDRIP and recognizes the inherent authority of Lower Fraser First Nations in their territories.

Managing flood risk requires working across the entire floodplain.

Yet responsibilities remain siloed among local authorities with limited funding and few opportunities to coordinate, making it difficult to advance integrated, affordable, multi-benefit solutions.

To support collaboration, LFFC is developing shared regional tools that map common risks, assets, and opportunities by bringing together data and knowledge from First Nations, municipalities, and other partners.

GATHERING

LFFC hosts regional gatherings that bring together First Nations, local governments, farmers, and provincial partners to share knowledge, build relationships, and identify opportunities for collaboration across the floodplain.

These conversations help strengthen trust, deepen understanding, and support more coordinated and resilient flood management.

SUPPORT FOR LOCAL FLOODPLAIN ACTION

Communities across the Lower Fraser are already leading important flood-resilience work. Our role is to help highlight these efforts, support momentum, and catalyze even more action across the floodplain. We work with communities to strengthen connections, fill planning and technical gaps, and help move locally driven projects forward.

If your community is looking for support, whether building relationships, addressing planning needs, seeking funding, or navigating technical challenges, we are here to help you take the next step.
